1950's Reversible Japanese Souvenir Jacket

My wife and I took a special trip to do some thrifting.  We drove about 100 miles to hit the thrifts in the Treasure State's Capital of Helena.  One of the stores there does a 1/2 off sale the first 5 days of the month.  This is where i came across this gem.  I had never seen one before, and had no idea exactly what they are worth.  But as we were driving home, she asked me what my favorite article from our haul was.  It was this.

"Souvenir Jackets" came about during and after WWII.  Soldiers that were stationed in the pacific wanted to come home with something from where they were stationed.  These can also be called tour jackets.  It started with the soldiers getting their own uniform or jacket embroidered, and then progressed into silk, satin, or polyester that were commercially sold.  This beauty is from the 50's and the embroidery is just stunning.  It has a Tokyo Speed Zipper.

My first blanket coat!  I picked up this gem up locally.  It is a Buck-Skein Brand and from what I can gather it is from the 1950's.  It's really amazing how warm and heavy these vintage coats feel.  It's got great colors and is amazing shape for being 60 years old.
